3rd & 8th Congressional District

Defending democracy in Washington state with real people and real stories.

For the 2022 mid-term elections I project managed the production and post-production of an ambitious video ad campaign to elect and re-elect Progressive Democrats in Washington’s 3rd and 8th Congressional Districts. It really was an all hands on deck project. Our Campaign and Organizing teams found and recruited volunteers who were willing to be on camera and invite us into their homes. My Director, of the Communications Hub, wrote most of the scripts. Our Digital Campaigns Manager drove us all around the state and was my acting “sous chef” with helping setting up equipment and shooting b-roll. My role in all of this was to make sure everything looked and sounded amazing, and got processed and published on a very tight quick turn around schedule.

I filmed seven different interviews, producing 30 seconds, 15 seconds, and 6 seconds ads that ran digitally in places like YouTube and Facebook. I shot everything on a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k with the Rode Wireless Go and Rode Video Mic Pro as our back up audio source. I worked with a small light kit (non-profit budget means getting creative), a LED panel video light, a ring light I borrowed from our Digital Campaigns Manager who makes all our Tik Toks, and a few 5 in 1 reflectors and diffusors. I worked in DaVinci Resolve, Premier Pro, AfterEffects, and tiny bit in Audition. I cut, color corrected, enhanced audio, added animation and effects when necessary, cut and edited background music, and scoured the internet for usable b-roll of our hopeful Democrats and Republican challengers.

We love Emma.

I worked with Emma two years prior during the 2020 presidential election, and was so thrilled she was able to join us again. Emma’s combined personal experience and her work with an abortion advocacy organization made for an effective narrative and ad. The most compelling part of her video is her own story, in her own words. Thank you Emma!

Heather and her family were just the best hosts.

My team and I spent hours with Heather, her two loving parents, fiancé, and younger sister. They opened up their home to us to shoot four different ads, and were so warm and inviting. We laughed a lot, and connected on our shared passions to protect abortion rights and access.
