Statewide Poverty Action Network

Bold typography, playful colors, and dynamic shapes make for a stand out design.

This was my third time designing Poverty Action’s annual policy agenda. Poverty Action works through in-person community organizing and online advocacy, to advance equitable policy solutions for low-income people in Washington state. The 2021 WA Legislation Session was the first of its kind being totally remote. Poverty Action had to think on their feet when it came to engaging the public and our Legislators in a totally remote session. This made for an interesting problem to solve for. In typical years the challenge with this piece is to take really dense data and socially-sensitive content and make it approachable and engaging. As a trusted design and thought partner, I was able to push the envelope even more to help this brochure and Poverty Action stand out in a crowded online space. The anthropologist in me isn’t a fan of Post-Modernism but the designer in me LOVES graphic design borne of that era. It was both fun and effective leaning into Post-Modern design for this project.
